The Ranks of Jody Brae: A Novel

The Ranks of Jody Brae: A Novel

It's 1964 in Boston. Fires rage throughout Roxbury, a vast urban slum, destroying buildings and leaving families homeless. The local press, politicians and civic leaders have all but ignored the epidemic. Although the Arson Squad has determined every incident to be accidental, police reports and building records go missing. Residents are terrified and no one is safe.

What began as a routine investigation has turned into a nightmare of survival for Detective Jody Brae. As Roxbury burns, he wanders the back alleyways and bowels of Boston alone.  Determined to uncover the secret of the fires, Brae delves into a boiling crucible of civil unrest, poverty, and desperation. Abandoned by his own police department and questioned by the woman he loves, Brae's search leads him to an aging underworld figure who knows as much about the fires as he does about Brae's own troubled childhood. With no one left to trust, Brae makes a pact he may not live to regret.

Set against the backdrop of early 1960's Boston, The Ranks of Jody Brae is more than a detective novel. It's the story of personal redemption and professional honor and one man's struggle to come to terms with the mystery of his past.
